HOW IT BEGAN

Open Heart Financial, LLC became an entity in 2002 as a "fee-only" Financial Planning firm. Stuart McHenry, the founder and president, has been in the financial field since 1986 as a Mortgage Banker and Individual Investor. In 2000, he dreamed about providing Middle- and Lower-income Americans with access to affordable financial advice. The name Open Heart Financial was inspired from the idea of using a detailed technical approach, much like a surgeon would, to help people achieve the dreams and aspirations of their hearts and to experience the joy that can come from living financially healthier lives.

To fulfill this goal, Mr. McHenry pursued a "Certified Financial PlannerTM"(CFP) designation (www.cfp-board.org), which required many months of intensive education, as well as several years of experience in the financial field. Once succeeding in this critical first step, he became licensed with the State of Maryland as a Registered Financial Advisor and then opened this small Financial Planning Firm in Waldorf. OHF was created to offer middle and lower income people with professional and affordable financial advice and counsel. We value people over money, so we naturally chose to focus our time and energy serving those whose lives could experience dramatic change with even a minor financial course correction.
