Currently, I have two users with Vista, and once
we got CILe working, it worked fine. The problem was getting it working
with all of the security of Vista.
The primary symptom is a popup message that says
you don't have access to make certain changes to CILe. You're not actually
making changes to CILe, but you are writing a small file to your hard
disk (the .ini file, for you geeks) every time you open and close CILe,
so that seems to be what it's complaining about. Without the proper
user privileges, it won't let you do that.
The way we were finally able to get it working was
by giving the user (whoever you sign on as), more access to the data.
We accomplished this two ways:
1. Turn off the UAC.
2. Give the user full access to the C:\Program Files\CILe
folder.
It's possible you could get the same effect by simply
doing step 2 without doing step 1, but we didn't try that.
If you don't know how to do that, please refer to
your Vista documentation, paying careful attention to the implications
of turning off the UAC on your system. My understanding is that this
is a feature included for securing networks, and is unnecessary for
a stand-alone computer. Please research that yourself, though, as I
am not a Vista expert. If you're on a network, your network administrator
may be able to help you get CILe working without turning off UAC.
As I get more information, I will post it here.
